The most expensive line in the maker's vocabulary is "build it and they will come." It comes from a film about a baseball field. It has buried more good products than bad code ever has. Most first-launch disappointment is disappointment against the wrong benchmark. Here is what is actually happening.
You aim your launch at your follower count. Your follower count is not your buyer count. Warm reachable humans convert at 3–5%. Cold followers convert near zero. The launch funds itself from the former, not the latter.
You publish the product and then start building the list. By launch week you have a product and nobody to tell. A list built in launch week is a list of zero on launch day. The list has to exist before the product ships.
After a quiet launch you either quit too early or keep going with no data. The difference between a dead product and a fixable one is usually the sales page, the price, or the list — not the product. Most makers cannot tell which is the problem.
Ten chapters. No filler chapters. Every chapter ends with a today-tactic: something you can do before you close the PDF.
Before you set a launch date, score your readiness across the ten dimensions of this manual. Open one HTML file in any browser — no internet required. Get your grade, your weakest dimension, and the one fix most likely to make or break the launch.

Battle Tested Field Notes Co. publishes practitioner guides built on observed demand, not assumed topics. Every guide begins with a signal corpus: recurring, specific pain appearing across the maker and indie-founder communities. This manual was built from one such cluster — the same problem described in the same specific terms, hundreds of times: made something real, no idea how to sell it to the handful of people who actually need it.
The guides are direct, numerate, and free of coaching language, motivational framing, and filler. If a sentence does not earn its place, it is cut.
